the infamous hero

As Katie mentioned, I have been working at football games. For those of you who don't know this Katie is very gracious in supporting me in this, which is really encouraging to me.

This last Thursday night our team had the most amazing ending of a football game I have ever seen live. Our team was down 21 points with only 9 minutes left in the fourth quarter. They drove the field and scored quickly. It was exciting because it gave the possibility of a quick 3 and out, getting the ball back and trying again. The opposing team drove 50 yards, consuming a lot of the clock. The missed a field goal and our team took over. Again they score rather quickly with 3 minutes left. Normal kickoff and the other team is back on offense. A quick 3 and out and we do get the ball back with 1 minute left. The drive was almost ended but prolonged on a penalty. It comes down to the last play - a hail mary to the end zone - remember, our team is trailing by 7. The pass is intercepted by their player to end the game, but instead of kneeling down he fumbles the ball backwards into the end zone with 0 ticks on the clock. Our player falls on the ball, touchdown! Extra point, overtime, we end up winning.

So I am concerned. Why? This if the type of play that a young person may never forget. While this is not on the level of Steve Bartman, infamous fan of the Chicago Cubs, or the soccer player from South America who was killed after inadvertently scoring on his own goal, this kid made the type of play that other kids will never forget.

My sweet husband that is always away

For those of you who know what residency is like you understand why i don't see my husband for more than 1 hour for days in a row some months. And when your spouse enjoys something in the medical world that causes them to be away more (i.e.- o.b. or sports med) it can be even less often. well, my husband love sports medicine and so this being football season he is trying to get to every high school game that he can. I am glad that he gets to go b/c he loves it so much and he is like a little school boy on that sideline. These last few weeks have been one of those times when we don't see him. Tonight he is going to another away game and won't be home till after 11. But he surprised Isabella and I and got to come home early and be with us for about 20 minutes. He also surprised me with (probably my favorite food item in Harlingen) a fajita quesadilla from La Playa (the nicest mexican restaurant in town). It was something little for me, but it was a great gesture.
Here is a video of matt and Isabella from this afternoon when Matt got to come home. I thought it was just so cute!!

Gardner Wedding

Our good friend, Mike, married another friend, Jessica, while we were in NC. Matt was in the wedding party and because of this we got to stay at a huge beach house right on the beach. We had a wonderful time catching up with friends and enjoying the amazing weather for late September. It made it that much harder to leave NC...Matt said i couldn't use the beach excuse because we live 45 minutes from an island. it confirmed for both of us though that we would prefer to go somewhere opposite of southern Texas for fellowship when Matt finishes residency.
Here are some fun pics from the wedding weekend:
These first two pictures are of one of Matt's proudest moments. He caught a shark off of the beach one night with Harrison (a friend from SMI). He was so excited--i am sure some of you can imagine!

These next pictures are from the wedding day:
these are matt's friends from philadelphia. Mike and Jessica got married in a garden. Eric thought it would be a good ides to stop and take some pictures of Isabella in one of the gardens (it was a great idea). She had never been sat in grass before.

Catch up continued

This is my favorite recent picture.

SEPTEMBER:
September was a very full month; Isabella and I went to North Carolina on the 18th and spent a week there with my parents and then Matt came up and we went to Wilmington for Mike Gardner's wedding. We got to stay at a beach house for a couple of nights and see a lot of friends from Philadelphia. We had a wonderful time and Isabella decided that she was going to start doing all new things while we were away--she started clapping with her hands open, playing peck-a-boo, holding her own sippy cup (and drinking), and she is sitting up so well.
Gran, Pops, uncle Brian and aunt Jenn, Palmer and Brantley had such a great time with her. It was so nice for all of us to have some time together. It was a bit difficult for me to leave as fall was on its way --the leaves were starting to change and the air was a little crisp at night. I miss fall. Anyways, here are some pictures and video of our time:
This is my great friend, Sarah, who came up from Atlanta to meet Isabella and spend some time with me. We were so happy to have her and loved that she drove up to see us.
We also celebrated my mom's 60th birthday wish a surprise lunch with our family and some friends...we also surprised my dad and included him on the cake because he turned 60 in Aug.

Okay here is what you all have been waiting for all summer. Be warned there are going to be a lot of pictures to see. So, pace yourself.
JULY:

This is a picture of when Heidi was visiting. We are so thankful that she was there when she was..Isabella had some fun with her too. This is when we were staying with friends after the break in; they have a pool--it was really nice!

AUGUST:

This is just so cute! These next couple of pictures are from our trip to Pittsburgh to see Matt's family. Isabella met everyone except Tim (hopefully at Christmas). We had a really nice time. We also got to see our friends, the Nash's. Luke is Isabella's long-distance boyfriend (aren't they cute?).
This is Matt's sister Martha; we can't wait to meet our new cousin soon!!
